Rooted opened two days before the midterms with 338 independent newsrooms. Since then we have shipped the changes readers asked for most. Here is what is new.

## A Following tab

Home now has three tabs: Top stories, Following and Live feed. Following shows the outlets you chose, newest first, with a count of what each has published since your last visit. Swipe between the tabs on your phone, and pull down to refresh.

## Notifications

Turn them on under You > Notifications. You will hear when a story you follow is picked up by more outlets, and when an outlet you set alerts for publishes. Never more than six a day.

## Three new emails, all off until you turn them on

**Your week** arrives on Sundays: what you read and how far those stories went. **Support what you read** comes once a month with the three outlets you read most and their support links. **This week near you** comes on Saturdays with the week from your state's outlets.

Turn them on in the "You" page.

## A clearer profile

"You" now has five tabs: Following, Notifications, Display, Account and Help.

## Since you were last here

Come back after a few hours and a card at the top of Home sums up updates while you were offline: new pieces from your outlets, stories you follow that grew, what broke while you were away.

## Smaller fixes

Amplify notes no longer need a hover. Votes available site-wide. Headlines and pictures open the story itself.
